VMworldWhat happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. For myself and the rest of the MOBI team however, all bets are off after returning from VMworld—enterprise mobility’s leading annual cloud infrastructure and technology conference.

This five-day event transformed Mandalay Bay into a collaborative, innovative enterprise mobility workspace featuring insights and knowledge from all over the world. More than anything else, VMworld connected business leaders and industry experts like myself to uncover cutting-edge technologies, analyze modern enterprise trends, and identify who is shaping the future of digital business.

While dozens of conversation topics, meetings, and sessions were officially scheduled on the event agenda, three primary topics tended to dominate most my discussions: the migration to Windows 10, VMware’s new Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities, and Workspace ONE.

Making the Move to Windows 10

According to VMware’s experts, there are more than 500 million global IT assets that need to be migrated to Windows 10. As 2020 and the end of Windows 7 support rapidly approaches, company executives and IT teams who still manage outdated Windows operating systems need to start thinking about the future and how to create a formal plan for upgrading all enterprise devices.

Organizations are flocking to Windows 10 because, among other benefits, it allows a business to manage its mobile assets as endpoints and provides major returns compared to traditional desktop management. Rather than attempting to lock down employee devices, this new-age operating system focuses on security provisioning at the individual user level to enable maximum organizational productivity instead. Windows 10 device protections are also more effective and cost-efficient than their predecessors—they can be managed with 61% better security and 40% less overhead.

Keeping the Pulse of IoT

VMworld attendees also took part in a deep dive into VMware’s brand-new Pulse IoT Center, an end-to-end infrastructure management solution that helps enterprises manage and secure their IoT use cases. While the platform won’t be released until later this year, I can already confidently say that this approach will be the best one available in the marketplace. I’m excited to see more of the Pulse IoT Center and figure out how we can integrate it with MOBI’s customers moving forward.

While this new software product looks very much like AirWatch’s backend, the technology behind its interface works quite differently.[tweet]

While this new software product looks very much like AirWatch’s backend, the technology behind its interface works quite differently. By capturing data through a Little IoT Agent (LIOTA), software development kits installed on IoT gateways allow enterprise mobility programs to create a more general IoT management approach.

Getting Work Done with Workspace ONE

Combined with a Single Sign-On (SSO) solution, Workspace ONE ensures employees have every tool they need automatically provisioned to their devices.[tweet]

Workspace ONE and End-User Computing (EUC) enablement was the major theme of the entire conference. Essentially, this digital workspace platform allows a business to deliver, manage, and secure any mobile application on any endpoint by delivering a seamless experience across any mobile operating system. Combined with a Single Sign-On (SSO) solution, Workspace ONE ensures employees have every tool they need automatically provisioned to their devices.

This platform can do a lot; delivering large application packages in real-time without a server, creating additional self-service installation options, and securing native Apple and Windows applications are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to creating and maintaining a consistent, enterprise-wide user experience.

Did your enterprise mobility team make it to VMworld 2017? If not, be sure to ask one of our experts about their experience. If you did, tell us about your favorite part of the event in the comments below!
